Ateneo and De La Salle renew rivalry (0:49)

The Ateneo Blue Eagles and the De La Salle Green Archers renew their rivalry in the 2018 Filoil Flying V Preseason Cup presented by Chooks-To-Go. (0:49)

It will be rematch of the UAAP finals in the 12th Filoil Flying V Preseason Cup presented by Chooks-to-Go when reigning UAAP champions Ateneo Blue Eagles take on the DLSU Green Archers on Independence Day, June 12, at the Filoil Flying V Centre.

Ateneo is fresh from their emphatic 99-55 win against the Mapua Cardinals last Friday. The Blue Eagles have been nothing short of dominant in the summer tournament as they remain the only undefeated team with eight straight wins. Their rampant campaign includes a 64-point rout against the EAC Generals, the largest margin of victory in Filoil history.

The Green Archers are right behind the tournament-leading Eagles with a 7-1 slate. Led by their twin towers Justine Baltazar and Santi Santillan, La Salle edged the NU Bulldogs, 73-66, last Sunday. La Salle's lone loss came at the hands of NCAA champion San Beda Red Lions.

Ateneo and La Salle's matchup will not just be a colossal battle between the two proud schools, but it will also act as a fundraiser for veteran barker Rolly Manlapaz. The revered voice of college basketball is unfortunately ill.

The UAAP finals rematch will take place at 4:00pm followed by the Gilas Cadets and the EAC Generals at 7:00PM. The Cadets are hoping to end their Filoil campaign on a positive note when they take on the still-winless Generals. The young Gilas squad won't qualify for the quarterfinals with a 3-5 record. Nonetheless, the 23 for 2023 pool is using the Filoil tournament to build chemistry and experience.

On Tuesday's first game, the Lyceum Pirates (2-4) will test their mettle against the UST Growling Tigers (1-5). The Pirates were back in full strength when they easily defeated the FEU Tamaraws on Sunday.

The San Beda Red Lions (5-2) will lock horns against the Mapua Cardinals (4-4) in the next game. The Red Lions are not only the defending NCAA champions but they are also hoping to repeat as Filoil champions.

Separate tickets will be sold for the first two games on Friday with the last two - Ateneo vs. La Salle and Gilas vs. EAC - will serve as fundraisers for Manlapaz. The main events will have ticket prices of 450 pesos for courtside, 270 pesos for lower box, and 100 pesos for upper box seats.
