Pirates drub Generals for 12th straight win; Cardinals slip past Bombers

Lyceum kept its winning streak going after pummeling Emilio Aguinaldo College, 95-75 in the NCAA men's basketball tournament on Thursday at the FilOil Flying V Centre.

CJ Perez and Mike Nzeusseu led Lyceum''s onslaught with 19 and 18 points, respectively. The two also combined for 12 boards.

Jaycee Marcelino added an all-around outing of 15 points, seven assists, and four steals.

The Pirates thus preserved a 12-0 win-loss record to remain atop the standings. San Beda is not too far behind with an 11-1 card.

It was a back and forth contest in the first half. But the Pirates asserted their dominance in the second half and established an insurmountable 89-69 buffer with less than two minutes remaining.

The win spoiled a 30-point performance by Jerome Garcia. EAC dropped to a 2-9 card.

In the ensuing game, Mapua hammered out an 81-79 win over Jose Rizal University.

Laurenz Victoria saved the day for the Cardinals after drilling in a fadeaway jumper against Jed Mendoza with 1.2 seconds to go.

JR Aguilar then botched a shot that could have sent the battle between the cellar-dwelling teams into overtime.

Mendoza had 17 points as Mapua improved to a 3-8 card. The Heavy Bombers continued to struggle with a 2-10 tally.

Mendoza scored 22 for JRU.

Meanwhile, the NCAA cancelled its basketball and basketball games on Friday. Classes are suspended on Friday due to Super Typhoon Ompong, which is expected to make landfall on the same day.
