The Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas (SBP) on Wednesday released the 12-man lineup Gilas Pilipinas will use against Iran on Thursday in the fourth window of the 2019 FIBA World Cup Asian Qualifiers.
The roster was revealed by SBP president Al Panlilio via his Instagram account.
Making up the team are Raymond Almazan, Beau Belga, Alex Cabagnot, Paul Lee, JP Erram, Marcio Lassiter, Allein Maliksi, Gabe Norwood, Ian Sangalang, Asi Taulava and Scottie Thompson.
Gilas will utilize Christian Standhardinger as its naturalized player.
"SBP is pleased with the roster that will play in Iran. We are praying that Coach Yeng's final 12 will be able to compete and beat the strong Iranian team," Panlilio said.
Greg Slaughter was an initial shoo-in but his ankle injury prevented him from making the final cut. Also not part of the 12-man lineup are Stanley Pringle, Japeth Aguilar and Matthew Wright.
"As much as I wanted to play, unfortunately my ankle is still swollen from our last game. We have decided to let it fully heal before stepping back on the court, since we believe that we are in this for the long haul now that my eligibility is cleared," Slaughter said in a post on social media. "I would like to thank Coach Yeng and the entire team for their patience and understandings."
"It is unfortunate that Greg Slaughter's injury has not fully healed yet. There is still swelling and contusion on his left ankle. We are very cautious not to rush his comeback as we don't want to further aggravate his condition," added Panlilio.
After the game against Iran, Gilas will fly back home to battle Qatar behind closed doors at the Smart-Araneta Coliseum on September 17.
