Is Andray Blatche suiting up for Gilas Pilipinas in the sixth window of the FIBA World Cup Asian Qualifiers?
SBP special assistant to the president Ryan Gregorio said they are still finalizing plans to bring in the naturalized player in time for the last leg of the qualifiers.
"That is the plan. Finalizing," Gregorio said in a text message to ESPN5.com.
Under new coach Yeng Guiao, Gilas dropped its last two games against Kazakhstan and a shorthanded Iran in the fifth window here in Manila.
The team opted not to tap Blatche even though he was eligible to play for the Iran game after serving out his suspension for his involvement in the Philippines-Australia brawl at the Philippine Arena last July.
Now Gilas is looking bring him in early as the Philippines looks to salvage a spot in the World Cup.
"As far as the SBP is concerned, we are in touch with the agent of Andray to finalize plans to bring him in early," said Gregorio, who is also the assistant coach of Guiao in the national team.
Gilas currently sits in fourth place in Group F with a 5-5 record and will play Qatar and Kazakhstan in February to wrap up their Asian Qualifiers campaign. They still have a good chance of qualifying for the FIBA World Cup in September but cannot afford to lose their last two games.
