The Alaska Aces have decided to suspend Calvin Abueva after the forward continued to miss practices and fail to inform the team of his whereabouts.
The team made the announcement Saturday on Twitter.
"While the team understands that Abueva may be going through some troubling personal issues, it does not obviate his responsibility to his team," the statement read. "The suspension is effective immediately."
Abueva was last seen in public during the PBA All-Star Weekend festivities where he played for the Luzon All-Stars on May 25 in Batangas City. Since then he has not shown up for Aces practices, and team management has had trouble contacting him. Aces coach Alex Compton said last week that Abueva had personal issues he needed to address.
This is the second time that Abueva has left the team to address personal issues. He also requested time off last year but returned after a week.
The Aces are currently in third place in the Commissioner's Cup with a 5-1 record.
