Raymond Almazan will rejoin the Rain or Shine Elasto Painters on November 2 after a meeting Monday with head coach Caloy Garcia and Rain or Shine team officials.
Almazan, accompanied by his wife Lisa and agent Danny Espiritu, met with Garcia, Rain or Shine governor Atty. Mamerto Mondragon, alternate governor Edison Oribiana, and team owner Raymund Yu at the team's office in Pasig on Monday.
"He's [Almazan] rejoining the team already. Our conversation lasted for several hours, but the serious business of discussing his issue with coach Caloy was done after just 15 to 20 minutes. We ended by about 12 noon," Mondragon told ESPN5 on Monday.
Mondragon said the team will impose sanctions which includes Almazan forfeiting one month's salary for his absences. Almazan will officially report to the team on November 2.
"I've asked him to show up in practice Tuesday but he'll only report for duty on November 2," Mondragon said.
Mondragon said Almazan's absences initially were because of family concerns but later became a misunderstanding between Almazan and Garcia.
"Raymond felt he was always being singled out [by Garcia] when he's absent or comes late in practice. I think there's nothing wrong when Garcia is calling out his attention for being late or absent," Mondragon said. "So he admitted his mistake and is accepting the sanction."
Rain or Shine was pushed to the brink of elimination in the 2018 Governors' Cup following its 91-82 loss to Meralco on Sunday.
Since Almazan's absence on October 3, Rain or Shine has only won twice in its last six games. The Elasto Painters currently occupy the 10th spot with their 2-6 record and are in danger of missing the quarterfinals.
Rain or Shine's last three games include Phoenix on Wednesday and San Miguel on Saturday before closing its elimination round assignment versus NLEX on November 3.
