The San Miguel Beermen improved their chances of making the Governors' Cup top four as they improved to 5-4 while dropping the Batang Pier to 2-8. (1:53)

The San Miguel Beermen hung on for a 114-107 victory over NorthPort Batang Pier on Wednesday despite squandering a double-digit lead at the Cuneta Astrodome.

The Beermen also improved their chances of making the Governors' Cup top four as they improved to 5-4 while dropping the Batang Pier to 2-8.

Kevin Murphy led the Beermen with 27 points, four rebounds, and seven assists while making the booming 3-pointer that gave the Beermen the lead for good, 100-97.

Christian Standhardinger made his presence felt with 21 points and 20 rebounds. Alex Cabagnot added 17 points, while Marcio Lassiter and Chris Ross chipped in 16 and 14 points, respectively

The Beermen led by as many as 19 points in the third period.

"After winning the last two games, I think our defense was not that strong," San Miguel coach Leo Austria said.

NorthPort in the fourth quarter leaned on Jonathan Grey to lead a 15-3 rally and tie the game 94-94.

Murphy's 3-pointer and five-straight points from Ross restored order for the Beermen and put the game away.

Sean Anthony paced NorthPort with 24 points and Pringle had 21 points and nine rebounds.

Import Rashad Woods was limited to just 14 points but pulled down 15 rebounds.
