Manalang drops 40 in AMA's win, Gamboa-St. Clare extends winning run

Robbie Manalang tallied a conference-high 40 points and AMA Online Education barged into the win column with a 96-93 victory over Batangas-EAC on Monday in the 2018 PBA D-League Aspirants' Cup at JCSGO Gym in Cubao.

The Fil-Am guard shot 8-of-16 from 3-point range to lead the charge for the Titans, who had to survive a late flurry from the Generals.

AMA also got huge contribution from James Martinez (18 points), Genmar Bragais (17 points, seven rebounds, and five assists) and Rocky Antonares (12 markers and 12 boards) to snap a three-game skid.

In the second game, Gamboa Coffee Mix-St. Clare dismantled JRU, 93-76, to extend its winning streak to three games and improved to 3-1.

The loss was the second straight for JRU, which dropped to 2-2.

"We got more scorers. No one has scored in these last games aside from Robbie. Now we have more options," said AMA coach Mark Herrera of new recruits Arvin Tolentino and Kyles Lao.

The Titans raced to a 26-8 lead after one quarter and build their biggest lead at 54-26 early in the third period on a layup by Antanores.

After struggling for three quarters, Batangas-EAC pickded up some momentum and rallied in the fourth behind the trio of Cedric de Joya, Cedric Ablaza, and Jerome Garcia to pull within two, 95-93 in the final 11.0 seconds.

The loss pushed the Generals deep into the cellar with a 0-4 record.

De Joya topscored for Batangas-EAC with 21 points, Ablaza registered a double-double of 17 markers and 12 boards, while Garcia had 15 points, four rebounds, and four assists in the defeat.
