National Basketball Association (NBA) Rookie of the Year candidate Donovan Mitchell of the Utah Jazz is visiting the Philippines for the first time.
Mitchell will be in Manila on Sunday (June 17) to promote and grace a couple of events for adidas, which he is an endorser of.
"From claiming the 2018 Slam Dunk Champ title to leading in the 2018 NBA Rookie of the Year race, Donovan Mitchell has really inspired our basketball-crazy country and we can't wait to welcome him to the Philippines," Jen Dacasin, Brand Communications and Sports Marketing Manager for adidas Philippines, said in a press release.
The Jazz guard is scheduled to attend a press conference in Bonifacio Global City at 1:30 pm. He will then drop by Taft Food by the Court at 4 p.m. for a basketball camp and a three-point shootout for charity before proceeding to Smart-Araneta Coliseum to catch the PBA games.
Mitchell is coming off a stellar rookie season for the Jazz with averages of 20.5 points, 3.7 rebounds and 3.7 assists.
He helped the Utah Jazz get into the playoffs of the 2017-18 season where they eliminated the Oklahoma City Thunder in six games in the first round, before falling to the Houston Rockets in five games in the Western Conference semifinals.
Mitchell is one of the finalists for the NBA Rookie of the Year award, along with Boston Celtics' Jayson Tatum and the Philadelphia 76ers' Ben Simmons.
