Shawn Porter’s decision over Danny Garcia for a vacant welterweight title Saturday night averaged 619,000 viewers and peaked 690,000 for the live Showtime broadcast, according to Nielsen Media Research. Welterweight Yordenis Ugas’ decision over Cesar Barrionuevo in a title eliminator averaged 447,000 viewers (510,000 peak) and the opening fight, heavyweight Adam Kownacki’s decision over former titlist Charles Martin, averaged 395,000 (503,000 peak). Most of the telecast went head-to-head with “Superfly 3” on HBO, which is in millions of more homes but got clobbered. The main event, Juan Francisco Estrada’s decision over Felipe Orucuta in a junior bantamweight eliminator, averaged only 298,000 viewers (329,000 peak), one of the lowest viewed fights in HBO history. It was soundly beaten by the undercard bouts as the Donnie Nietes-Aston Palicte vacant junior bantamweight title fight averaged 349,000 viewers (421,000 peak) and the opener, junior bantamweight Kazuto Ioka’s decision over McWilliams Arroyo averaged 310,000 viewers (371,000 peak).
