Professional Madden NFL player Chris “Dubby” McFarland will abstain from competing in Madden 19 Championship Series events, he announced during his livestream and on Twitter on Monday. Dubby was among 11 injured during a mass shooting at a Madden event in Jacksonville, Florida on Aug. 26. “I will continue to be a staple in this community as long as I can from the comfort of my house and other various venues,” McFarland said on Twitter. “Just not comfortable locking in at EA events yet.” On Aug. 26 during the inaugural Madden NFL 19 esports event, an elite-level competitor named David Katz opened fire at a gaming bar in the back of Chicago Pizza at the Jacksonville Landing. Katz injured 11, including McFarland who was grazed by a bullet on his head, and killed three.
