Nils Petersen penalty enough for Freiburg to defeat Darmstadt

Freiburg sent Darmstadt to the bottom of the Bundesliga on Saturday thanks to a late Nils Petersen penalty in a 1-0 win.

In Ramon Berndroth's first game in charge of Darmstadt, following the dismissal of Norbert Meier last weekend, the Lilies appeared to have had new life breathed into them.

Their football was anything but what you would expect from a side struggling near the bottom of the table, especially not in an away game, and they were unfortunate not to be ahead before half-time as Artem Fedetskyy hit the post.

All their efforts were ruined five minutes from time, though, by a penalty which was earned and then converted by Petersen to earn Freiburg all three points.
