Winthrop (7-5) held a slim 30-29 halftime advantage. Bjorn Broman nailed a 3-pointer to start the second half that saw the Eagles go up 52-38 following an Anders Broman trey at the 9:53 mark. The Panthers failed to close the gap.
The Eagles shot 50 percent (24-48) from the floor while holding High Point to 20-of-63 (32 percent) shooting. Winthrop also won the rebound battle 43-30.
The rebuilding Wildcats are set to raise the 2018 national championship banner next week and also lower expectations for the season to come after multiple NBA departures.
