Foton outlasted Generika-Ayala, 20-25, 25-21, 25-14, 19-25, 15-5, to kick off its campaign in the 2018 Chooks-to-Go Philippine Superliga All-Filipino Conference on a high note Saturday at the Ynares Sports Arena in Pasig City.
Mina Aganon finished with 20 points, while Maika Ortiz added 12 as the Tornadoes hold a 1-0 win-loss record, tying Smart, Petron and F2 Logistics in the upper half of the standings.
Foton played without towering Santiago sisters Dindin and Jaja, but squad captain Ortiz said it wasn't a big burden for the team.
"As the leader, it's not really a big of a challenge for me because everyone in the team really contributes a lot," said Ortiz.
"We can't always say that we don't have Dindin and Jaja, we have to step up for the team," added Aganon. "We have to make use of what we have in our team right now."
Foton capitalized on Generika-Ayala's seven errors in the fifth set, and a total of 42 miscues.
Fiolla Ceballos led the way for Generika-Ayala with 21 points, while Patty Orendain had 14 and team captain Angeli Araneta scored 14.
In the PSL Collegiate Grand Slam, University of Santo Tomas gave Colegio San Agustin-Biñan a rude welcome, dealing the league newcomer a straight-sets loss, 25-12, 25-13, 25-10.
Meanwhile, Tots Carlos led University of the Philippines to deny University of the East, 22-25, 25-16, 25-22, 31-29.
