Bulldogs, Stags turn back foes in FilOil Preseason Cup

National University and San Sebastian clipped separate foes in the Filoil Flying V Preseason Cup on Tuesday.

The Bulldogs drubbed Jose Rizal University, while RK Ilagan exploded for the Stags in a win against UST as they remained unscathed in two games.

NU 79, JRU 67

National University leaned on a balanced attack to hammer out a 79-67 won over Jose Rizal University.

Dave Ildefonso led the team with 12 points, Robert Minerva had 11, and Miguel Oczon and John Lloyd Clemente combined for 17 markers.

The Bulldogs shifted into high gear in the second period and sustained the pace, leading by 20 points heading into the fourth frame.

They maintained the lead before cruising to their second victory in four matches in the preseason tourney.

JRU continued its tailspin after absorbing its third loss in as many games. Darius Estrella paced the Heavy Bombers with 14 points.

San Sebastian 85, UST 81

RK Ilagan erupted as San Sebastian edged University of Santo Tomas, 85-81.

Ilagan fired 28 points to go with five rebounds and the same number of assists, while getting significant help from teammates as the Stags zoomed to a 2-0 start.

JM Calma posted a double-double with 18 points and 10 rebounds. Allyn Bulanadi chipped in 15 markers.

Meanwhile, Rhenze Abando led UST's attack with 21 points spiked by four triples. He also grabbed nine rebounds and dished out a pair of dimes.

Mark Nonoy registered 18 points, five rebounds and five assists, and Sherwin Concepcion finished with 16 points for the Growling Tigers, who reeled to their third loss in four games.
