UP Fighting Maroons continue good form, go 3-0 in BLIA Cup

The UP Fighting Maroons continue to impress in the 2019 Buddha's Light International Association (BLIA) Cup, notching their third straight win at the expense of the National Kaohsiung Normal University, 97-67, on Thursday in Kaohsiung, Taiwan.

Led by Javi Gomez de Liaño, the Fighting Maroons uncorked 32 points in the third quarter to blow the game wide open. They also went to work on the defensive end, limiting their opponent to just 17 points. Gomez De Liaño scored 10 of his team-high 25 points in the period. He also added two rebounds, two assists, and two steals.

Kobe Paras put up 16 points in the rout while Jun Manzo and Will Gozum had 13 points apiece for the Fighting Maroons, who are missing the services of Ricci Rivero, Juan Gomez de Liaño, and Jerson Prado.

UP remains unscathed after three games and will look for its fourth consecutive win versus National Taiwan Normal University on Friday.

In the women's division the NU Lady Bulldogs lost their second game in a row, bowing to Nagoya Gakuin University, 89-74.

Lamama Kapinga gave a valiant effort of 25 points on 10-for-16 shooting and six rebounds. Jack Aminam was right behind with 23 points and nine boards.

With the two losses and a win by Northern Colorado earlier, NU will fail to advance in the semifinal round.
