Adamson University snapped out of its slump in UAAP Season 82 and earned a much-needed 72-53 win over National University Saturday at the SM MOA Arena.
The Falcons put on a masterful performance in the fourth quarter and outscored the Bulldogs 24-6. With the victory, they ended their four-game losing streak and finally got back on the win column.
"We really needed this win," said Adamson coach Franz Pumaren. "Every game for us right now is important."
Pumaren, who is still recovering from a procedure to remove his kidney stones, mentioned that his effort of going to practices and games also serves as a way to rally his players.
Jerrick Ahanmisi fired 15 points, including three shots from beyond the arc. AP Manlapaz was a standout off the bench, pouring in 14 points and four rebounds.
Manlapaz, who is just in his first year for Adamson, sparked the game-changing run heading into the fourth quarter. He hit a last-second layup in the tail end of the third quarter that proved to be the springboard for the Falcons' rally. Manlapaz scored 10 points in the final frame and was a one step quicker than all of his defenders.
"We really needed this win that's why everyone helped out," Manlapaz said in Filipino. "In the first half, we were struggling, no intensity, so in the second half, we really went hard."
Dave Ildefonso led NU with 15 points and eight rebounds followed by Issa Gaye's double-double outing of 14 points and 10 boards. The Bulldogs were right in the thick of things for the first three quarters but suddenly couldn't buy a basket in the last 10 minutes of play.
The Falcons ended their four-game losing streak and earned its fourth win in 10 games. The Bulldogs meanwhile remain at the bottom of the standings with a 2-8 record.
