Cagulangan, Fil-Am Dowd to join UP Fighting Maroons

The University of the Philippines (UP) Fighting Maroons are set to obtain DLSU Green Archer Joel Cagulangan and a one-and-done guard from the United States, a source with knowledge of the situation told ESPN5.com.

A homegrown star with La Salle Greenhills Greenies, Cagulangan won the NCAA Season 94 Juniors MVP before rising to the senior level with DLSU. He played sparingly in the Green Archers' UAAP Season 82 campaign, where he totaled 3 points, 12 rebounds, 4 steals, and 3 assists in just 4 games.

As a transferee, Cagulangan is set to suit up for the Maroons in Season 84.

Joining him is former Idaho State guard Sam Dowd.

The 5'7 Dowd, whom the source described as "athletic and quick," will be suiting up for only one year in the upcoming Season 83.

After being redshirted for his first year with Caroll, he transferred to North Idaho College, where his stellar play made waves among Division 1 scouts.

With the Idaho State Bengals, Dowd played 56 games and started 10 across two seasons, where he normed 1.9 points, 0.6 rebounds, and 1.2 assists.

He was also named as the recipient of the Most Courageous Award by the U.S. Basketball Writers Association in 2018.

The two could add a boost to the Maroons' backcourt, with the status of Juan Gomez de LiaƱo uncertain.
