Evan Nelle is parting ways with the San Beda Red Lions and will be suiting up for the De La Salle Green Archers in the UAAP.
The 5-foot-10 crafty playmaker confirmed his transfer on Tuesday after rumors of his impending departure surfaced over the weekend.
"I believe that I need to chart a new path forward in my basketball journey," Nelle said in a statement. "After giving this matter much thought and consulting with those closest to me, I have decided to join the De La Salle University Green Archers."
Nelle has been with San Beda for the last eight years, suiting up for both the Red Cubs and the Red Lions. He was a prized recruit coming out of high school and did not disappoint when he entered the Seniors ranks.
Nelle played for two seasons under head coach Boyet Fernandez and the Red Lions, winning a title in his freshman year. Last season, he blossomed into San Beda's rising star alongside backcourt partner James Canlas. As a sophomore, he averaged a league-best 6.7 assists a game while producing 10.2 points, 4.5 rebounds, and 1.6 steals en route to a Mythical Team selection.
"I am grateful to everyone at San Beda especially my San Beda Red Lions Family. I am also thankful to the San Beda Community. They have never failed to show their passion for the team and I will be forever indebted to them for the support that they have shown me," he said.
It will be a homecoming of sorts for Nelle having donned the green and white in De La Salle Zobel from prep to grade school.
"I am excited by this next chapter in my career and I wish the San Beda Red Lions nothing but the best. I hope that this new beginning brings new opportunities for all of us," the statement closed.
Nelle will look to bolster the Green Archers come UAAP Season 84.
