The University Athletic Association of the Philippines has found a new television partner after the league announced Wednesday that it has signed a long-term broadcast deal with Cignal TV.
"The University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP) is proud to announce its broadcast partnership with CIGNAL TV and SMART for the next five and a half years, starting with UAAP Season 83 (2020-2021)," the statement read.
"As part of this collaboration, select events of the UAAP will be aired live on One Sports channel and CIGNAL TV and SMART's other digital assets, ensuring an engaging and expansive coverage across different multimedia platforms.
"With their affiliate network, TV5, and combined experience in sports production, the partnership provides the UAAP with a strong foundation in its efforts to promote collegiate sports in the country."
The Covid pandemic has put plans for the league's 83rd season in flux, with no set date yet. Furthermore, college teams have not yet resumed practices. But the UAAP expressed optimism that the new deal would be the first step in laying the groundwork for the next season.
"Despite the current challenges, the league is looking forward to the partnership as a new chapter that can take the UAAP to even greater heights."
