Continuity became the name of the game as Gilas Pilipinas Women announced their 5x5 and 3x3 lineups for the upcoming basketball tournaments of the 30th Southeast Asian Games.
The team, a holdover from the recently-concluded FIBA Asia Women's Cup, will try to safeguard homecourt as they look to clinch gold among a pool of four teams.
The women's national team finished fourth in the 2017 edition.
Headlining the squad are Jack Animam, Afril Bernardino, Janine Pontejos and Clare Castro, who will also comprise the Philippines' delegation for 3x3. The quartet finished 10th out of 12 squads in the 2019 FIBA Asia 3x3 Cup last May.
Completing the 12-woman roster are Kelli Hayes, Ria Nabalan, Gemma Miranda, Chack Cabinbin, Danica Jose, Khate Castillo, Eunique Chan, and Andrea Tongco.
"Led by coach Patrick Aquino, we've seen our Gilas Pilipinas Women team improve by leaps and bounds both in 5-on-5 and 3x3. Our Filipina ballers have the talent and, more importantly, the dedication to their craft, which has led to our women's program taking big steps forward Now, it's time to target the SEA Games gold that has eluded us so far," said Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas president Al Panlilio.
"Filipinas have obliterated boundaries in different sporting events in the past few months and we're confident that our Gilas squad can also achieve what was once impossible."
The women's 3x3 competition will run from Dec. 1 to 2 at the FilOil Flying V Center, while the women's 5x5 will kick off on Dec. 5 at the Mall of Asia Arena.
