Coach Ronnie Magsanoc is set to take over head coaching duties for Gilas Pilipinas Men in the upcoming FIBA 3x3 Olympic Qualifying Tournament (OQT) this March.
Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas (SBP) announced the appointment Thursday, over two months before the tournament is set to tip off in Delhi.
This comes after Magsanoc successfully led a gold-medal campaign by Gilas Men's 3x3 in the 30th Southeast Asian Games last December.
Magsanoc will be handling a pool led by two of the country's top 3x3 players in Joshua Munzon and Alvin Pasaol. The duo will be joined by Dylan Ababou, Karl Dehesa, Leonard Santillan, Chris De Chavez, Gab Banal, Jaypee Belencion, Leo De Vera, and Ryan Monteclaro.
The Philippines is one of 20 teams gunning for three tickets in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. Countries are divided into four pools with five countries each.
Slovenia, Qatar, France and Dominican Republic will duke it out against the Filipinos in Group C. Only the top two teams will move on to the quarterfinals.
The OQT will run from March 18 to 22.
