For the second time this season, Calvin Abueva missed time with the Alaska Aces due to personal reasons.
Abueva was notably absent in the Aces' 109-103 win over GlobalPort on Saturday at the Big Dome. Last conference, he also skipped a match against Blackwater to settle some off-court problems.
According to head coach Alex Compton, the Beast has not shown up for Alaska's practices since the PBA All-Star break.
"Calvin, if you're watching, I hope you're okay," Compton said in the post-game interview.
The Aces mentor admitted that he has limited information on the whereabouts of his veteran player. They tried communicating with Abueva, but so far, they haven't heard back from him.
"We've been reaching out to him, we're not sure where he is. Calvin's been going through some personal issues and we'll leave it at that. But yeah, we hope he's safe and all right. I don't actually have a whole lot of information to give you other than that," said Compton.
Abueva last saw action in the Visayas leg of the PBA All-Star Games last May 28, where he finished with 41 points and 27 rebounds for the national team.
While the Beast's presence is undeniably vital for Alaska's campaign, Compton understands that his player needs some time to resolve whatever it is that he's going through.
"I think he's trying to sort things out in his life," Compton said. "Life is bigger than basketball. It's our profession, we love it, but it's not the meaning of life. Life is bigger than the game."
