The NorthPort Batang Pier continued its hot start as they cruised to a 110-86 drubbing of previously unbeaten TNT KaTropa Wednesday evening at the Mall of Asia Arena.
NorthPort trailed by three midway through the third, 62-65, before going on a 21-0 blitz bridging the third and fourth quarters to surge ahead 83-65.
The Batang Pier's offense remained scorching hot throughout the game, hitting 53.8 percent of their field goals.
The backcourt tandem of Stanley Pringle and Robert Bolick delivered a combined 43 points for NorthPort, with 22 coming from last year's MVP runner-up, who was making his conference debut.
The rookie Bolick meanwhile had himself a great fourth quarter, scoring 13 in the payoff period, including 11 straight.
KaTropa import Terrence Jones, who had been on a tear with back-to-back 40-point games, was held to just 17 in their first loss in three outings.
Jones, who faced multiple defenders by a defensive-minded tactic of Jarencio, was held to just 5-of-15 shooting, including coughing up six turnovers.
The former Rocket, Pelican, and Buck was saddled with foul trouble, incurring four fouls, including a technical foul at the 39.5-second mark of the third for second motion against opposing guard Nico Elorde.
Troy Rosario led TNT's offense with 22 points and eight rebounds.
"We almost played a perfect game especially on defense on Terrence Jones. They frustrated a high-scoring import. Our mindset was really fixed on containing Terrence Jones," said NorthPort head coach Pido Jarencio.
NorthPort seems to have TNT's number as they dealt them the two worst losses in the Bong Ravena/Mark Dickel era.
This era's worst loss for the KaTropa came also at the hands of the Batang Pier, losing by 26 in the Philippine Cup last Mar. 24.
Pringle made his Commissioner's Cup debut following successful surgery to remove bone spurs in his foot.
