Rey Nambatac's career game propelled the Rain or Shine Elasto Painters to a 104-81 rout of the Barangay Ginebra Kings as they barged into the win column in the 2019 PBA Commissioner's Cup Friday at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
Determined to bounce back from a pair of losses that hounded them at the start of the conference, the Elasto Painters came out firing to pull off a lopsided victory over the defending champions.
"We can't do anything anymore on the first two games that we played," said Rain or Shine coach Caloy Garcia. "I told them if we're going to win lots of games in this league, we have to be consistent in hitting outside shots. In the first half, Nambatac was on fire and that's what we built on."
Nambatac exploded for seven 3-pointers -- six in the first half alone -- to finish with 30 points, while Denzel Bowles delivered 25 points, 17 rebounds, and six assists.
Javee Mocon also waxed hot in the fourth to help Rain or Shine break the game wide open.
"I called them out after the game against Blackwater," said Garcia. "I told them that If we can be aggressive for four quarters, then we have a chance against Ginebra."
The players responded as they maintained their aggressiveness on defense, which allowed them to carry a double-digit edge heading into the final frame.
The Gin Kings no longer recovered from the 12-0 beatdown that the Elasto Painters made with still seven minutes to spare. Bowles and Beau Belga conspired to take care of their 20-point lead, then Nambatac settled the final score with his 30th point.
Justin Brownlee's 30-point and 17-rebound outing went to waste as Ginebra dropped to a 2-2 record.
