The Meralco Bolts will be bannering the Philippines for the second straight year in the FIBA Asia Champions Cup, which will be held September 24 to 29 in Bangkok, Thailand.
Meralco, which just fell short of a podium finish in last year's edition, will field its Governors' Cup import Allen Durham and former San Miguel import Renaldo Balkman as reinforcements.
Durham teamed up last year with former Los Angeles Clippers big Diamond Stone, but the Bolts lost to the Seoul SK Knights in the bronze medal match. Prior to the classification match, they went toe-to-toe with eventual champions Petrochimi of Iran in the semifinals but fell short.
Among those participating in the club tourney are Alvark Tokyo (Japan), Guandong Southern Tigers (China), Ulsan Mobis (Korea), Fubon Braves (Chinese Taipei), and Hitech Bangkok (Thailand).
With Meralco's inclusion in the FIBA Asia Champions Cup, the number of PBA teams using international tournaments as preparation for the 2019 PBA Governors' Cup have increased to four.
San Miguel, TNT, and Blackwater will be participating in the East Asia Super League's The Terrific 12 in Macau, China on September 17 to 22.
The Governors' Cup tips off on September 20.
