Aguilar OK after eye poke, won't miss time for Ginebra

Barangay Ginebra's Japeth Aguilar avoided major damage from an accidental eye poke he sustained on Sunday.

Team trainer Aspi Calagopi told ESPN5.com that Aguilar was diagnosed with only a soft tissue contusion and will be given some eye drops to relieve the irritation.

"It's just a soft tissue contusion. It's nothing, really. Just a regular poke in the eye," Calagopi said in a text message.

Ginebra coach Tim Cone also said it's not an injury that will sideline him for quite some time, including their next game against Phoenix on Saturday.

"He's still under observation for the next two days, but it does seem that it is not something that will keep him out for a long period," Cone said.

Aguilar was inadvertently hit by teammate Stanley Pringle in mid-air during the fourth quarter of the Gin Kings' opening night tiff against Alaska. He was not able to finish the game and was immediately taken to the hospital to have his eye assessed.

He finished with eight points, 11 rebounds, three assists and a block as Ginebra went on to score a 102-83 win over the Aces.
