Sneakers have become an expression of art and personality. Whether its on-court or off-court, shoes say a lot about the person wearing them. Flashy or finesse. Playful or plain. There were a lot of both fancy and playful in Week 2 of the Governors' Cup.
Let us know what your favorite pair is in the poll below.
Nike is unanimously recognized as one of the top sporting brands in the entire world. When it collaborates with a brand, Nike serves as the authenticator - telling the world that its collaborator is legit. One of the most recent team-ups Nike had was with a proud Filipino brand, Titan. The LeBron 16 "Agimat" raises the Filipino flag gallantly much like how Gabe Norwood does every time he wears "Pilipinas" on his chest. And if you missed it, LeBron himself wore it in the Lakers' preseason win over the Warriors.
Speaking of playful, few sneakers are as playful as the Spongebob Squarepants x Nike Kyrie collaboration. They featured five sneakers, one for each major character of the cartoon series. RR Pogoy brought one the version of the series' antihero Squidward. While doing so, he played the hero for TNT as had 22 points, seven rebounds and four assists to help his team get the win.
Here's another collaboration between Nike and a prestigious streetwear brand Undefeated. Lee breaks into the list in back-to-back weeks thanks to sneakers that were not released in the Philippine market. Last week, he had Zoom Freak IDs. This week, these Undefeated Kobe 4s. Good thing Magnolia won over Alaska in the game Paul wore these. Otherwise, "undefeated" would have been ironic.
We talked about how playful the Spongebob x Nike collab is. Well, people have found a way to make it even more frisky - mix and match them. That's what Phelps did when he wore both the Spongebob Squarepants and the Patrick Star colorways of the Kyrie 5. It was impossible to miss as the vibrant colors stood out on the floor of the Smart Araneta Coliseum. His shoes may seem playful every now and then, but trust that the Phoenix import is all business in the Governors' Cup.
Jackson Corpuz is a colorful guy. Just check his hair. Actually, check it in the first half then come back to check it again in the second. He changes his hair color during halftime! Well, bold colors were not limited to his hair this past week. He also brought out some royal blue and gold on his feet with the Zoom Freak 1 "Greece Blue", one of the latest colorways of the Giannis Antetokounmpo signature shoe.
