Rain or Shine's Beau Belga was slapped a P20,000 fine by the PBA for his hit on Phoenix forward Jason Perkins on Wednesday.
League commissioner Willie Marcial said on Sunday he summoned Belga to his office to explain his side of the incident. Belga decked Perkins underneath the basket during the second quarter of the match between the Fuel Masters and the Elasto Painters. He was assessed a flagrant two foul and was subsequently ejected.
Belga is the second player to be fined by the PBA in less than a week after Terrence Romeo, who had to pay up the same amount after his hit on NLEX guard Philip Paniamogan in Dubai on October 4. Like Romeo, Belga also escaped suspension and suited up against the Alaska Aces on Sunday.
Belga said he only hit Perkins with an elbow as a response to a prior play where the 2018 Rookie of the Year got a bit physical with him.
"He was just setting a screen and I only wanted to intimidate him so he wouldn't do that again," he explained afte Rain or Shine's loss to Phoenix. "I just did that so he wouldn't abuse it. I only regret it because that became their assessment, their call. That kinda affected the result of the game."
"I expected that to be a flagrant 1. That's fine. But flagrant 2? I can't do anything about it anymore. It's their judgement," he said.
