San Miguel taps John Holland to replace Dez Wells

The Grand-Slam seeking San Miguel Beermen have tapped John Holland as their import for the ongoing PBA Governors' Cup, replacing the injured Dez Wells.

Holland will undergo the official height measurement on Friday morning.

According to San Miguel manager Gee Abanilla, Holland was actually head coach Leo Austria's first choice import for this conference.

"Holland is actually our first choice, Coach Leo's first choice before," Abanilla said.

The manager explained that Holland was not available at the start of the conference due to his commitment with Santeros de Aguada in Puerto Rico.

Despite Holland coming in as a replacement, Wells will still stay with the San Miguel Beermen as an injured reserve. The Beermen were actually expecting Wells to play against the Blackwater Elite on Wednesday, but he was held back due to injury concerns.

Wells has been out of action since suffering a left ankle injury in a blowout loss to the Meralco Bolts on October 27.

Holland is expected to make his debut against the Rain or Shine Elasto Painters on Saturday at the Hoops Dome in Lapu-Lapu City.

Holland played previously played for the Cleveland Cavaliers, averaging 2.3 points and 1.0 rebounds. He also played in the G-League for the Austin Spurs and Canton Charge.
