Magnolia made sure there wouldn't be a meltdown this time.
The Hotshots turned it up in the second period before surviving a late-game rally by TNT to come away with a 100-93 win in the 2019 PBA Governors' Cup at the University of Southeastern Philippines on Saturday.
The Hotshots, who squandered a 26-point bulge and dropped their previous game against NLEX, wrapped up the elimination round with a 6-5 win-loss record.
Magnolia proved steady in the final minutes with Romeo Travis and Paul Lee conspiring to put the game away.
TNT made one last run in the final minute, trimming what was once a 23-point lead to seven points on KJ McDaniels' and-one play, 91-98. But the KaTropa failed to fan the flames, with Lee sealing the match with a pair of free throws.
Travis led the way for Magnolia with 21 points, 13 rebounds, three assists, and the same number of steals. Lee and Chris Banchero had 13 points each.
TNT, whose campaign has gone downhill since Jayson Castro went down with injury, slid to a third straight loss for a 7-3 record that puts their twice-to-beat chances in peril.
McDaniels erupted with 33 points and 15 rebounds. Bobby Ray Parks had another impressive outing for TNT with 21 points, eight rebounds, and five assists.
RR Pogoy added 13 markers.
