The Office of the Commissioner suspended NLEX's JP Erram and Paul Varilla one game each for their roles in a fourth-quarter altercation during the NLEX-NorthPort Governors' Cup quarterfinals game Monday.
Erram was also fined P50,000 for striking NorthPort import Michael Qualls with an elbow to the back of the "for no apparent cause" and for maintaining a fighting stance after the hit.
Meanwhile, Varilla will be fined P40,000 for punching Qualls in the face and for elbowing Batang Pier center Christian Standhardinger shortly after the first attack.
The duo won't see action Wednesday when NLEX tries to avoid completely botching a twice-to-beat disadvantage against NorthPort in a knockout match.
Standhardinger and Road Warriors guard Philip Paniamogan were eached fined P5,000. The league office determined that Standhardinger elbowed NLEX's Kiefer Ravena during the commotion, while Paniamogan was seen hitting the NorthPort star with an elbow to the abdomen in a separate play minutes after the initial incident.
"Again, let me remind all the players of their responsibility to their mother team, most especially to our fans," commissioner Wilie Marcial said in the statement. "The league will never tolerate fighting, (and) there is absolutely no room for such in sports and in the PBA."
