Almazan suffers lateral meniscal tear on left knee

Meralco Bolts center Raymond Almazan suffered a lateral meniscal tear on his left knee, team manager Paolo Trillo told ESPN5.com on Tuesday.

Almazan obtained the injury at the 5:55 mark of the first quarter in Game 3 of the PBA Governors' Cup Finals on Sunday at the Smart-Araneta Coliseum.

His presence was sorely missed as the Bolts dropped the game to Barangay Ginebra, 92-84, to fall behind 2-1 in the best-of-seven series.

Almazan was carried to the locker room and underwent an MRI at the Makati Medical Center. His status for Game 4 on Wednesday is a game-time decision.

"[I] will talk to him and assess," said Trillo.

Almazan had certainly been a force for the Bolts in the championship series. He had been averaging 17.5 points, 11 rebounds, and 1.5 blocks in the first two games.

He scored a bucket and hauled in two boards before he suffered the injury in Game 3.

"We are in a must-win situation again so we will be there fighting. We must improve our defense to give ourselves a chance," said Bolts tactician Norman Black.

"Almazan has a torn meniscal tear in his left knee, he is a game time decision as far as if he will play in Game 4. He will warm up before the game and let me know," the decorated coach added.
