The PBA has formed a shortlist from a total of 20 parties interested in holding the planned bubble tournament for next month.
Though he refused to drop hints on who made the cut for the Board of Governors, commissioner Willie Marcial on Friday said the league may finally be able to decide on a site in another meeting next week.
"May shortlist na ang governors kanina. By next week pag-uusapan namin ulit. By Thursday (September 17), magme-meeting ulit," he said.
From the 20 suitors, Marcial said 13 came from Manila and six were provincial hotels. The other one was the Coca-Cola Arena in Dubai, though the commissioner said time constraints may prevent them from leaning towards setting up the bubble overseas.
Only four were on hand to make their pitch, according to Marcial.
"Nag-present kanina ang Lio [Tourism Estate] ng El Nido, Marriott Manila sa Pasay, Batangas at Clark. Sila ang mga nag-present. Tapos 'yung iba nagbigay ng proposal," he said.
Marcial also said the Board of Governors will mull what type of bubble will be the best option for the PBA.
"Inexplain ko 'yung iba't ibang klase ng bubble -- bubble ng NBA, semi-bubble na hotel to venue, at 'yung isang closed-circuit na parang ginagawa natin at ng Bundesliga," he said.
The Friday meeting began at 10 a.m. and didn't conclude until later in the afternoon due to wide-ranging topics discussed by the head honchos.
"Syempre 'yung cost ng bubble, kung gaano ka-safe 'yung personnel nila -- marami. Iba't ibang factors talaga ang pinag-usapan," he said. "At least na-absorb nila lahat. Pag-uusapan next week 'yung format, kung saan ang bubble at ano ang hotel."
