Thirdy Ravena will miss the Japan B. League season opener this weekend as he waits on securing a visa.
San-en Neo Phoenix will be playing back-to-back games against the Chiba Jets at 5:05 p.m. on Saturday and 6:05 p.m. on Sunday at the Hamamatsu Arena in Shizouka Perfecture.
Even if Ravena secures a visa in the next few days, he will miss at least 14 days upon arriving in Japan for a mandatory quarantine.
His father, TNT KaTropa head coach Bong Ravena, said last Sept. 30 that the 23-year-old will immediately leave for Japan when he gets the approval from the embassy.
"Hopefully, Thirdy can leave for Japan soon. He will leave ASAP once he gets the visa," Bong Ravena told ESPN5.
The former Ateneo standout made history last June, being the first Asian Special Slot contracted player in the fledgling league.
San-En hopes Ravena's entry can turn their fortunes around, having finished last in the Central District Division last season with a 5-36 slate.
