One of San Miguel's three teams -- Barangay Ginebra, the San Miguel Beermen or the Magnolia Hotshots -- will see action in the 2019 Asia League Terrific 12 tournament scheduled for September in Macau.
Asia League chief executive officer Matt Beyer confirmed this on Wednesday after his meeting with PBA commissioner Willie Marcial, San Miguel Corp. sports director Alfrancis Chua, and Blackwater team owner Dioceldo Sy.
"We now have the support from the PBA for teams to participate in the Terrific 12," Beyer told ESPN5 on Wednesday. "... All the people outside of the Philippines always hear about San Miguel and Ginebra, but now, we see Magnolia doing quite well and are playing in the Finals."
Beyer said they are waiting for the PBA to set the Governors' Cup schedule, tentatively slated to start in September.
"It's attractive to OFWs (overseas Filipino workers) from Macau and Hong Kong," said Beyer.
Blackwater and NLEX, two teams that saw action in the Summer Super 8 Tournament in 2018, are also expected to join the Terrific 12 this year.
The 2018 Chinese Basketball Association champions Liaoning Flying Leopards, the Shenzen Lepards and Zhejiang Guangsha Lions have already confirmed they will be participating. Japan will send the defending champions Ryukyu Golden Kings as well as two other professional teams to the tournament.
