CTG Pasig falls in Kunshan (1:38)

Chooks-to-Go Pasig fell victim to Sosnovy of Russia and Liman of Serbia in the FIBA3x3 Huaqiao International Kunshan Challenger. (1:38)

No Philippine team will be competing in the 2019 FIBA 3x3 World Tour Chengdu Masters after Pasig Chooks-to-Go lost their two assignments in the FIBA 3x3 Huaqiao International Kunshan Challenger on Saturday.

Pasig Chooks-to-Go had a hot start in China but they ran out of steam in the end as they absorbed a 121-19 defeat against Russian club Sosnovy Bor with still 1:28 left in the game to play.

The score was 17-15 in favor of Pasig Chooks-to-Go but they reached the penalty situation, which hobbled them throughout the contest. The Russian squad scored on a basket courtesy of Artem Timofeev and drew a foul from Taylor Statham, which led to two free throws. He managed a split from the stripe with the count tied at 17-17.

Sosnovy Bor retained the possession and drew another foul from Joshua Munzon. They missed both free throws but took the lead with a two-point shot from Timofeev. Munzon responded with his own long shot to tie the count but the game-winner came soon after from Vladislav Meleshkin.

Pasig Chooks-to-Go's only shot to make it to the next stage of the tournament was to score a victory against Serbian powerhouse Liman in their next match.

The Philippine side scored a victory against them in Doha, Qatar but at the time they still had 3x3 veterans Nikola Vucevic and Angelo Tsagarakis. With Dylan Ababou and Troy Rike, Pasig Chooks-to-Go had been hoping that their experience playing together would give them a chance at scoring an upset.

Liman defeated Sosnovy Bor, 22-18, earlier in the day so Pasig Chooks-to-Go knew they were in for a tough match.

The loaded squad of Serbia simply had too much cohesion and talent as they defeated Pasig Chooks-to-Go, 22-12.

Liman had three players in the top 10 of the FIBA World Rankings in no. 4 Aleksandar Ratkov, no. 5 Mihailo Vasic, and no. 8 Stefan Kojic, aided by Maksim Kovacevic.

Like their first game, top-ranked Filipino players Statham and Munzon once again led the fight for Pasig Chooks-to-Go with six points each but it was nowhere nearly enough to overcome the powerhouse team.

The scores:
