Twins Matt and Mike Nieto of the Ateneo Blue Eagles and Jayvee and Jaycee Marcelino of the Lyceum Pirates are among the latest 2019 PBA Draft aspirants.
The Nieto brothers capped off their collegiate careers with three straight championships with Ateneo.
"It's a great opportunity for us to play here in the PBA which is our ultimate goal. This is really Mike's and my dream growing up, and now, we're one step closer to reaching it," said Matt.
Matt, who was the lead point guard for the Blue Eagles, averaged 7.1 points, 3.1 rebounds, 2.7 assists, and 1.3 steals in the recently concluded UAAP season. Mike, meanwhile, contributed 4.4 points 3.5 rebounds and 1.1 assists and served as the team's vocal leader on and off the court.
"We're super excited but at the same time, it's a new environment, a new culture, and a new league altogether," added Matt. "We'll work harder here because we'll be playing against our idols. Hopefully, all our learnings from coach Tab (Baldwin) and other assistant coaches from Ateneo will have a payoff."
The Marcelino brothers, on the other hand, decided to forego their final year with Lyceum and join the PBA draft.
The twins from Olongapo were integral pieces to the Pirates' impressive run in the last three years, clinching back-to-back finals appearances -- including an elimination round sweep in Season 93 -- before settling for a third-place finish this year.
Jaycee delivered 18.6 points, 5.1 rebounds, 2.8 assists, and 1.4 steals, while Jayvee chipped in 7.6 points, 4.1 rebounds, 2.9 assists, and 1.2 steals per game in Season 95.
Wendell Comboy of the FEU Tamaraws and Allyn Bulanadi of the San Sebastian Stags also submitted their names for the upcoming rookie draft scheduled on December 8.
Deadline of application for all aspirants is November 29.
