Thirdy Ravena is set to suit up for a stacked Mighty Sports side that will once again represent the Philippines in the upcoming 2020 Dubai International Basketball Tournament.
Head coach Charles Tiu took to Twitter to announce the development 15 days before the tournament is set to tip off on Jan. 23.
Excited to have @ThirdyRavenaaa join our Mighty Sports team in Dubai.— Charles Tiu (@charlestiu) January 8, 2020
This will be Ravena's first foray into international basketball this year before possibly seeing action for Gilas Pilipinas in February. The 6-foot-3 swingman was recently added to the pool which will play against Thailand and Indonesia in the first window of the 2021 FIBA Asia Cup qualifiers.
Ravena, who skipped the 2019 PBA Rookie Draft in favor of plans to play abroad, will play alongside collegiate standouts Juan and Javi Gomez de Liano, Jamie Malonzo and Dave Ildefonso.
Naturalized center Andray Blatche, Rain or Shine center Beau Belga, Filipino-American guard Mikey Williams and 17-year-old wunderkind Kai Sotto are also part of the Philippine contingent set to play in the invitational tournament.
Mighty Sports will look to improve on last year's third-place finish in only its third appearance in the league. Last year's squad -- which was bannered by Barangay Ginebra import Justin Brownlee, former NBA star Lamar Odom, and Fil-Americans Roosevelt Adams and Jonathan Gray, among others -- beat Homenetmen in its final game after suffering its lone loss of the tournament against Lebanon's Al Riyadi in the semifinals.
The Philippines could have another crack at Al Riyadi in the tournament, which will also feature Dubai's American School, another Lebanon team in Beirut Sports Club, Al Ahli from Libya, Syrian teams Alwathba Sports Club and Al Ittihad, and United Arab Emirates' national team and the Alittihad Alexandria Club
