Kai Sotto will be taking part in the Basketball Without Borders (BWB) Global Camp to be held during the 2020 NBA All-Star Weekend next week in Chicago.
The 7-foot-2 Sotto is among 64 international boys and girls invited in the camp, which will run from Feb. 14 to 16 at Quest Multisport.
Sotto is the second Filipino in the past three years to be named to the BWB Global camp after Gilas Pilipinas Youth teammate AJ Edu participated in the 2018 edition in Los Angeles.
This is only one among the latest positive developments for the 17-year-old prodigy, who had recently attracted interest from Georgia University and Boston College after some strong showings with Atlanta-based development organization The Skill Factory.
Coaching the camp's participants are Toronto Raptors forward and NBA All-Star Pascal Siakam, Washington Wizards sharpshooter Davis Bertans, Chicago Bulls third-year forward Lauri Markkanen, and 7-foot-5 Boston Celtics rookie center Tacko Fall.
Former WNBA players Ashley Battle, Michele Van Gorp and Ebony Hoffman will also be present, as well as Chicago Bulls assistant coach Karen Stack Umlauf, Milwaukee Bucks assistant coaches Vin Baker, Josh Longstaff and Ben Sullivan, and Chicago Sky director of player development John Azzinaro.
Raptors team president Masai Ujiri will serve as the camp director alongside Patrick Hunt (President of the World Association of Basketball Coaches; Australia), Gersson Rosas (Minnesota Timberwolves President of Basketball Operations; Colombia), and Marin Sedlacek (Philadelphia 76ers international scout).
Launched in 2001, BWB is an instructional camp run by the NBA in cooperation with FIBA that gathers the top teenage players from all over the world. This year's edition drew representatives from 34 countries and regions.
