The Atlanta Falcons announced the signing of linebacker Darin Drakeford on Saturday night.
Drakeford, who went undrafted last year coming out of Maryland, has had stints with Kansas City, Indianapolis, and the New York Giants but has yet to play in an NFL game. He has been waived four times and released once, spending the majority of last season on practice squads.
The Baltimore Sun reported Drakeford had an Aug. 1 tryout with the New York Jets.
Drakeford likely was signed just to give the Falcons another practice body. Linebacker Tim Dobbins, primarily a special-teams player, suffered an ankle injury in Friday night's exhibition game against the Miami Dolphins and is expected to be sidelined a few days.
To make room for Drakeford, the Falcons released kicker Sergio Castillo, who made two field goals in Friday's 16-10 victory.
