Center Julian Vandervelde returns to Eagles' roster

PHILADELPHIA -- The Philadelphia Eagles signed center Julian Vandervelde to replace injured David Molk on the 53-man roster.

It is Vandervelde’s third tour of duty with the Eagles. He was waived in 2014, then brought back when starting center Jason Kelce was injured. Molk moved into the starting lineup and Vandervelde was his backup.

When Molk tore his biceps muscle Monday night, it left the Eagles without a true backup center. Guard Josh Andrews, who has never played in an NFL game, can play center in a pinch.

The Eagles also made a change on their practice squad. They signed tight Connor Hamlett, an Oregon State product who was in training camp with the Jacksonville Jaguars this summer.

To make room, the Eagles released defensive end Brian Mihalik with an ankle injury. Mihalik was the Eagles’ seventh-round pick this year.
