Nesthy Petecio defeated Russian boxer Liudmila Vorontsova to win the gold medal in the 2019 AIBA Women's Boxing World Championships in Ulan-Ude, Russia on Sunday.
Petecio eked out a 3-2 split decision win over Vorontsova in the women's featherweight (57kg) class. She became the second Filipino female boxer to win the gold after Josie Gabuco in 2012.
She beat Jucielen Romeu and Stanimira Petrova before taking down China's Qiao Jieru in the Round of 16. She downed Japan's Sena Irie next before beating England's Karris Artingstall in the semifinals.
Petecio's gold came a day after Carlos Yulo won the gold medal in the 49th Artistic Gymnastics World Championships in Stuttgart, Germany.
