Son "Ucal" Woo-hyeon has joined Team Griffin for the upcoming League of Legends Champions Korea Spring Split, the team announced Tuesday.
Ucal, a mid laner, played with the Afreeca Freecs in 2019 but slumped during the spring split. He regained his dominance in the summer, however, finishing with the third most kills among mid laners in the LCK.
Griffin emerge from a tough offseason when they was forced to dissolve all of their players' contracts following an investigation by the Riot Games Korea into the team's contract practices. Ucal is part of a retooled roster that lost mid laner Jeong "Chovy" Ji-hoon, support Son "Lehends" Si-woo and top laner Choi "Doran" Hyeon-joon during free agency.
Former head coach Kim "cvMax" Dae-ho also left the organization after being indefinitely suspended amid allegations of physically and verbally abusing players. That suspension has since been rescinded as a third party looks into the allegations.
Last month, Griffin signed top laner Park "Untara" Ui-jin, mid laner Yoo "Naehyun" Nae-hyun and coach Han "H Dragon" Sang-yong.
The LCK regular season begins Feb. 5.
