There were more winners for the column last time out as we tipped Ajax to beat PSV Eindhoven in the Dutch Super Cup, while also backing Diogo Jota to score first for Wolves against Crusaders at 15/4. There are more Champions League qualifiers this week, while Bayern Munich host a tasty looking Audi Cup as preseason preparations are ramped up a notch.
Running total: -£2.75
Celtic won the first leg of their latest Champions League qualifier against Nomme Kalju 5-0 and the bookies seem to be under the impression the Glasgow giants may take their foot off the gas as a result for Tuesday's return leg in Estonia. Neil Lennon may well choose to give some of his fringe players some much-needed game time with the SPL season due to start but this tournament is simply too valuable for the Hoops to send out the kids, so another comfortable victory cannot be ruled out.
Nomme Kalju were never at the races in Glasgow once Celtic opened the scoring and 10/11 about the Scottish champions being ahead at half-time and full-time in Tallin looks banker material.
The Tasty Treble
There wasn't much between PSV Eindhoven and Basel last week, with the Dutch outfit getting out of jail by scoring two goals very late on to take a 3-2 lead to Switzerland. Mark van Bommel's men are 4/9 now to qualify but the draw could be the percentage call at 11/5 when the teams meet again on Tuesday night. Both sides usually like to get on the front foot but this second leg could be cagier with the Swiss champions knowing a 1-0 win would be good enough to send them through. We fancy PSV to score though, and given how well matched these teams are the draw looks the smart play at St. Jabok-Park.
Elsewhere, Qarabag can edge past plucky Irish outfit Dundalk this week. Qarabag scored a fourth-minute opener at Oriel Park and should have put the game to bed after dominating the first half. However they were left shell-shocked after the break by a spirited showing from the Lilywhites with the game eventually finishing 1-1. Qarabag have a solid record at home in Europe though and 8/13 about the home win this week looks about right.
Finally Red Star Belgrade were worthy 2-0 winners against HJK Helsinki last Wednesday and they can complete the job on away soil at 5/6. The 1991 European Cup winners look at least a level above their Finnish counterparts so look must bet material at a shade under even money. The Champions League treble pays over 8/1 with bet365 this week and could go close.
Selection: £3 on the treble at 8.47/1 with bet365.
The Wildcard Tip
Real Madrid looked all over the place as they lost 7-3 against city rivals Atletico Madrid last time out, so we are not sure why they are as short as 11/10 to beat Tottenham in the Audi Cup on Tuesday.
The Allianz Arena in Munich is the venue and Spurs look a tempting bet to inflict further misery on Los Blancos, who have yet to win a match in 90 minutes during their miserable preseason. Marco Asensio picked up an ACL injury recently, meaning he will be out for the majority of the season while former Spurs star Gareth Bale -- who is now something of a pariah at the Bernabeu -- saw a big-money move to China fall through over the weekend. Spurs have a good recent record against the Spanish giants too, beating them 3-1 at Wembley in the 2017-18 Champions League group stage while also drawing 1-1 in Madrid. They've already beaten Juventus this summer and so 4/1 about Spurs winning and both teams finding the net in Germany looks too big to turn down.
