Nigeria's home-based Super Eagles team were held 0-0 by reigning NPFL champions Plateau United in the Super Six tournament as their underwhelming CHAN preparations continue, while Kano Pillars and Akwa United also played out a goalless stalemate in the game's earlier kick off at the Sani Abacha Stadium in Kano.

The pair of draws means that the tournament is yet to produce a victory, with the four sides tied on two points after two fixtures, having drawn their openers on Monday.

The home-based Eagles' showing did little suggest that they will be a major threat at the African Nations Championship in Morocco next month, with chances few and far between for both they and Plateau United.

Peter Eneji was the most industrious Super Eagles player for large periods of the contest, but he ultimately failed to test goalkeeper Okiemute Odah.

Joshua Obaje went closest for the league champions, but goalkeeper Ikechukwu Ezenwa, who could start for Nigeria at next summer's World Cup, was able to deal with everything United threw at him.

Another major source of concern for Super Eagles head coach Salisu Yusuf was the injury-enforced substitution of defender Adeleye Aniyikaye, who becomes the latest unwelcome addition to a steadily growing casualty list.

Akwa United made several changes to their lineup for their meeting with Pillars, but despite introducing goalkeeper Shagari, Etim Matthew and Gabriel Wassa, they struggled during the early stages.

Junior Lokosa found the back of the net for Pillars in the eighth-minute, but his effort was ruled out for handball. The newly introduced Shagari also made fine stops to deny Nzube Anaezemba and Idris Aloma.

In the 74th minute, United had their best opportunity of the match, only for Amaechi Orji to see his effort cannon off the crossbar.

It was a largely event-free contest, which may leave both coaches worried about whether they have enough firepower to compete in CAF competitions next season.
