Substitute Davide Succi equalised nine minutes from time as Cesena hit back from 3-0 down to draw 3-3 at Hellas Verona on Saturday.
The hosts appeared to be cruising to victory after two goals from Luca Toni and a third from Juanito Gomez but relegation-threatened Cesena hit back with three strikes in the last 20 minutes.
Substitute Carlos Carbonero scored the visitors' first and Franco Brienza's fantastic free-kick made it 3-2 with 13 minutes left.
Succi then pulled his team level as Cesena stunned the crowd in the Marc' Antonio Bentegodi stadium.
The draw moves Cesena within four points of Atalanta in 17th place. Hellas are 15th, 11 points clear of trouble.
The hosts went ahead when Bosko Jankovic's cross found Toni at the far post and he slotted the ball into the bottom-right corner of Cesena goalkeeper Nicola Leali's net.
Toni almost scored his second immediately after but his powerful header from Eros Pisano's cross went wide.
Cesena reacted with Giuseppe De Feudis' 30-yard drive forcing Hellas goalkeeper Francesco Benussi to make a save.
Toni could have made it 2-0 in the 19th minute.
Leandro Greco fed the veteran striker and his right-footed attempt towards the near post was saved by Leali.
However, they did not have to wait long for Gomez to double the lead, getting past his marker and striking a bullet from 25 yards which flew beyond Leali's reach and into the top right corner of the net.
Before the break, Cesena were forced to make their first substitution with Emmanuel Cascione replacing the injured De Feudis.
After the re-start, Cascione's stinging drive from just outside the area forced Benussi to dive to his right to clear.
Hellas made it 3-0 just after the hour mark when Toni controlled Jankovic's cross in the area and hit the ball past Leali.
Cesena's fightback started when Carbonero drilled a powerful shot from outside the box past Benussi.
In the 77th minute, Brienza then brought them back into the match with a free-kick which sailed into the top right corner.
And the visitors grabbed a point when Brienza set up Succi and his right-footed shot from the heart of the area went past a helpless Benussi.
