Borussia Dortmund signing Sebastian Rode turned down Tottenham Hotspur

Borussia Dortmund's Sebastian Rode has revealed he rejected an offer from Tottenham Hotspur before moving to the Westfalenstadion.

Rode, 25, joined Dortmund on a four-year deal from Bundesliga rivals Bayern Munich on Monday, after making just 17 appearances at the Allianz Arena last season.

The tough-tackling midfielder became the fourth player to join the German runners-up this summer after Marc Bartra, Ousmane Dembele and Mikel Merino, but Dortmund were not his only option.

Asked if there was an offer from Spurs, Rode told Germany daily Bild: "Yes, that's true. And I listened to it, but again: the transfer to BVB was a matter of the heart."

Rode, who has said he supported Dortmund in his youth, revealed that Dortmund head-coach Thomas Tuchel was "crucial" in his decision to reject a move to Spurs.

"I've known Tuchel since he was a youth coach at Mainz back when I still played for Offenbacher Kickers," he added.

"I had very, very convincing talk with Tuchel before my signature. My decision that it can only be Dortmund was certain after that."
