Sources: Steelers appeal fine over Ben Roethlisberger injury report

At a time when the NFL is investigating whether the Detroit Lions violated the league's injury report policy regarding Matthew Stafford's back injury, the Pittsburgh Steelers are appealing their $75,000 fine for violating that same policy, league sources told ESPN.

The Steelers were fined $75,000 for not accurately listing quarterback Ben Roethlisberger on their injury report before their Week 2 matchup against the Seattle Seahawks. The Steelers did not disclose Roethlisberger had an elbow injury and listed him on the report as "not injury related." Roethlisberger started the game but exited after the first half. He underwent elbow surgery the following week and is expected to return in 2020.

The Steelers believe the fine is unfair, they have an argument and now have appealed the fine to the league offices.

Meanwhile, the NFL's investigation into the Lions' treatment of Stafford on the injury report is underway and is expected to be weeks away from wrapping up.
