Exeter Chiefs end Saracens' 22-game unbeaten run to top Premiership

Exeter Chiefs ended Saracens' 22-game unbeaten run with a dominant 31-13 victory to move above them at the top of the Gallagher Premiership.

Tries from Luke Cowan-Dickie, Harry Williams and Matt Kvesic alongside a second-half penalty try secured victory with what could be an important bonus point as the Chiefs look to regain the title they lost to Saracens in May.

Sarries were unable to contain the Exeter pack and offered little going forward with just one late try through Ben Spencer as they fell to defeat for the first time since March.

Saracens made the stronger start at Sandy Park as Owen Farrell converted two early penalties but thereafter Exeter held out against the early pressure and built their way into the game.

They took the lead after a brave decision to kick to the corner. From the resulting line-out Sam Skinner charged down Spencer's box kick to leave Cowan-Dickie -- brought in at the last minute for Jack Yeandle -- with a simple finish.

Steenson added the conversion and then kicked over a penalty on half-time as Saracens' penalty count rose.

Owen Farrell hit the post with an early second half penalty before Exeter turned the screw.

Elvis Taione was denied a try when the TMO ruled the ball had been held up after the forward pack drove to the line, but Exeter quickly attacked again for Williams to cross from close range.

Just minutes later the Saracens defence fell apart under the relentless forward pressure exerted by Exeter and a penalty try was awarded after they collapsed a maul on their own line.

Spencer's his last consolation followed a clever line-break from Christian Judge, but Exeter had the final word as their ambition was again rewarded when Steenson's kick to the corner allowed them to develop another driving maul and Kvesic crashed over.

Elsewhere Leicester Tigers ended their 8-match losing streak by beating Harlequins 35-24 and Sale defeated Bristol Bears 27-10.
